SIAMS
Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS)
As a Church of England school within the Birmingham Diocesan Multi‑Academy Trust, Bentley Heath participates in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS). This inspection explores how well our school’s theologically rooted Christian vision shapes our culture, curriculum and daily life, and how effectively it enables every member of our community to flourish.
What SIAMS Looks For
The SIAMS framework focuses on the impact of our Christian vision on pupils, staff and the wider community. Inspectors explore:
- Our Christian vision and the extent to which it drives our decisions, relationships and priorities
- The provision we offer because of this vision, including worship, curriculum, pastoral care and spiritual development
- The difference this makes, particularly how well all pupils -especially the most vulnerable – are enabled to thrive and feel valued
At Bentley Heath, our vision is rooted in Jesus’ command:
“Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12).
This guides every aspect of school life.
Our Current SIAMS Judgement
We are delighted that our most recent SIAMS inspection graded the school as ‘Good’. Inspectors recognised the strength of our Christian character, our inclusive ethos and the way our vision influences daily life at Bentley Heath.
Highlights from the inspection include:
- “Pupils feel loved and nurtured by the school.”
- “Pupils are keen to engage with all aspects of school life, proudly celebrating the ways they support others less fortunate than themselves, through their projects.”
- “The school actively networks with the diocese and the ‘Faith and Belief Forum’ to explore diversity, culture and religion.”
Recent Christian Distinctiveness reviews also describe Bentley Heath as a place of flourishing, with strong relationships and a deeply embedded Christian vision that shapes school improvement and spiritual development.
Flourish: A New Chapter in Our Christian Distinctiveness
Bentley Heath is proud to be part of the Church of England’s Flourish network – a national initiative creating new worshipping communities in schools and colleges. Flourish aims to build vibrant, intergenerational expressions of Christian community by strengthening partnerships between schools and their local churches.
The Church of England has launched the Flourish network in 40 pilot locations, including Birmingham Diocese, where we are pleased to contribute to this innovative work.
Flourish is shaped by five core principles:
- Young people’s voices at the centre of leadership, decision‑making and implementation
- A shared purpose to grow a younger and more diverse community of Christian disciples
- Strategic partnership between school and local church
- Intergenerational faith experiences, involving children, families and adults together
- Worship fully integrated into school rhythms and practices, supporting the flourishing of children and staff
As part of the Flourish network, Bentley Heath is committed to:
- Strengthening the spiritual life of our school
- Developing young worship leaders
- Building deeper connections between school, home and church
- Enabling children and families to engage more fully in faith and community life
- Supporting a new generation of confident, compassionate leaders shaped by our Christian vision
This partnership sits naturally alongside our SIAMS priorities and enhances our ongoing work on Christian Distinctiveness, worship, spirituality and community engagement.
Our Ongoing Journey
We look forward to our next SIAMS inspection (anticipated in 2026/27) as an opportunity to celebrate how far we have come and to continue growing as a school shaped by love, hope and faith.
Bentley Heath remains deeply committed to nurturing a community where every child and adult is known, valued and able to flourish- academically, spiritually and personally -through the life‑giving message of Jesus.
